New home builders Lanny Caldwell and David Schmidt have been raising the standards of quality homes and livable neighborhoods in the Raleigh, NC area since 1987. They give ExperienceOne Homes a unique approach that starts with a focus on attracting and keeping customers by offering richly varied designs and unsurpassed value in their single-family detached homes and townhomes.

In 1985 they founded Sunstar Homes, which became the largest privately owned building company in the Triangle. Sunstar merged with a group of other builders in 1996 to form a publicly traded company. When the new firm's emphasis on quarterly earnings and stockholders' profits interfered with their personal philosophy of putting the customer first, Caldwell and Schmidt chose to break away and start an uncompromising new business to better serve their customers. Thus ExperienceOne Homes was born.

ExperienceOne Homes has a long history of community planning and architectural diversity as leading innovators in the central North Carolina building industry. Several of the neighborhoods in which they have built and/or developed include more than 500 homes in Preston, over 600 homes in Park Village, more than 500 homes in Wakefield Plantation, and over 450 homes in Chancellor's Ridge.

With more than 50 years of combined homebuilding experience between them, and over 3,000 homes built in the Triangle, Caldwell and Schmidt have earned the title "Builder of the Year" four times, along with more design and marketing awards than any other local builder. In 2008, the Triangle Major Achievements in Marketing Excellence Awards honored ExperienceOne Homes with a total of 13 awards for their work at Kitts Creek in Morrisville, NC, including recognition for "Best Product Design" and "Community of the Year".
