Forbes Ranks Apex 3rd Best Place to Move in US

Apex has long referred to itself as the “peak of good living.” Now, two national magazines are expressing similar sentiments about the Wake County town.
Money magazine on Monday released the small-town version of its Best Places to Live list, ranking Apex No. 44. That list comes the week after Forbes declared Apex the third best place to move to in the United States.
Apex was the only North Carolina town to make the Money list. Money’s write-up on Apex said the town benefits most of all from being located close to Research Triangle Park and employers such as IBM, Cisco Systems and Merck. Also boosting Apex in the magazine’s eyes was the town’s proximity to the major university that form the three points that define the Triangle – Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Forbes also found much to like about Apex in its assessment of the best places to move to with populations of at least 25,000. The magazine liked the fact that 65 percent of Apex’s residents were born outside North Carolina and that 36 percent have moved a considerable distance to Apex over the past five years, usually because of a job opportunity.
Both magazines took high views of the town’s high income levels – $91,328 median family and $100,000 median household. Forbes also liked that 55 percent of Apex adults have earned a bacherlor’s degree or higher.
“ We are all so pleased that our Town has attracted this kind of positive national attention,” Apex Mayor Keith Weatherly said in a written statement released in response to the Forbes ranking. “For many years the Town has worked with our civic groups, our businesses, and churches to make newcomers feel very welcome. We are so encouraged when newcomers tell us that they find Apex to be one of the best places to get a good job, find a nice home in an attractive neighborhood, raise a family, and enjoy a safe and happy lifestyle.”
